Sarah & Paul
“I've come here with no expectations, only to profess, now that I am at liberty to do so, that my heart is, and always will be, yours.” -Sense & Sensibility
I was thinking of this as I walked with Sarah and Paul through the amazing landscape we found on the Mogollon Rim, near Woods Canyon Lake. The beautiful terrain, the gorgeous light, together with these two so obviously smitten with each other, made for such a memorable session I couldn't help but draw from my obsession with Jane Austen and timeless love stories.
As I prepare this afternoon for their wedding, (tomorrow!), I thought it would be so fitting to share a few highlights from this gorgeous, late afternoon, engagement session that took place in the beautiful mountains of Northern Arizona, my home, Rim Country.
-How did you two meet?
Paul and I met in the Charm Country Fudge shop in Swiss Village. We are both good friends
with Tom Plets, and went to the shop to get his locally roasted coffee. Paul was drinking a
four shot latte, and I was drinking a four shot iced dirty-chai. I think we hit-it-off based on
the intensity of our drinks. It seemed like each time that either one of us came into the shop
over the next couple of months, that we would find the other one
-How did the proposal go?
I had known that Paul had bought an engagement ring before he ever proposed to me.
However, I did not know when he would propose. I don’t think he even knew. It was on
October 24, 2017 and by chance, it happened to be 10:24 pm that he popped the question. We
had just left a dinner with some of his friends, and were headed back to his place to watch a
movie. We were crossing the street from the parking lot across from his apartment when he
stopped, dead in his tracks. I looked at him concerned and asked what was wrong. He looked
at me seriously and said, “I don’t want to take another step without asking you something.”
He pulled out a ring, got down on one knee, and said, “Will you marry me?”
-Why did you decide on this location for your e-shoot?
Our engagement photos began at the fudge shop where Paul and I met. It was a beautiful idea
that you had to have us take some photos in this beloved shop that is so close to our hearts.
We then left and went to a beautiful place on the Rim where aspen trees were growing. I
loved how beautiful our location was! I had been so nervous about the photo shoot, but the
isolation from groups of people, the fun photos that we got to take, and the gorgeous scenery
worked together to quickly calm my nerves. The photo shoot ended up being a really fun
experience that I will never forget, and will cherish forever.
-Tell me about the details you're most excited about for your upcoming wedding!
I am tremendously excited to marry my best friend! I am excited to wear my wedding dress
and say “I do.” Our wedding guest list is very small, consisting almost entirely of family, and
I look forward to the intimate celebration with our loved ones.
-Where are you getting married and where is the reception? Why did you choose these locations?
Our wedding and reception will be at the beautiful Wolf Manor Bed and Breakfast in Payson,
Arizona. Paul and I had both wanted to get married outside, and the lovely environment of
the Wolf Manor was immediately something that we both adored.
-What did you each wear to your engagement session?
To our engagement session, we began with wearing casual outfits. I wore pink skinny jeans
and a floral top, and Paul wore blue jeans and a black polo shirt. We later changed into more
dressy clothes. I wore a pink lace strapless dress and Paul wore a nice shirt and tan colored
-What kind of look were you going for?
I spent hours looking on the internet and searching through Pinterest for styles and different
looks that we liked and could choose for our engagement photos. I loved just about
everything that I came across, and was unable to choose one specific look. After talking it
over, we decided that our goal would just be to look and act like us. I chose two outfits that I
liked, and Paul chose two outfits that he liked, and amazingly, the two worked together very
Do you have any tips or advice for other couples about to have engagement photos taken?
My advice for other couples who are getting their engagement photos taken would be to relax and just be you. These pictures are to highlight who you are as a couple, so try to stay
authentically true to who you are, and have fun!
What was your favorite part of the e-session?
My favorite part of the engagement session was laughing in the arms of the love of my life.
What is your favorite image from the e-session?
My favorite image is a photo of me and Paul in our more dressed-up attire. He has his hands
on my waist, my hands are grasping his suit coat, our foreheads and noses are pressed
together, and we are both smiling. I feel like this picture shows just how in love we are, and it
makes me so happy!
Engagement sessions can be pretty nerve-wrecking, and sometimes feel awkward. How did your session feel for both of you?
Our overall session experience was wonderful! We enjoyed the fun energy that Bobbie had and the way that she captured the authenticity of our relationship. I had been really nervous, but within ten minutes I was laughing, and I continued throughout the entire experience. I
loved the fun nature of the photos and the way that Bobbie made the photo-taking fun for us.
Would you recommend us to your family and friends?
I would recommend you to anyone and everyone! I am so glad that we chose you as our photographer, and I hope that even after the wedding, we will be able to work with you
As I get my final preparations done, with less than 24 hours to go before these two say "I do", I can't help but be excited to document their wedding tomorrow and witness their union! What a beautiful day it will be!
